Welcome to our Summer 2023 Newsletter. We hope you are eagerly anticipating your holidays and enjoying the long-awaited warmer weather!

We have been in touch a number of times this year with planning reminders, regulatory changes, and potential planning opportunities, so we thought it would be good to let you know what’s been happening at Carrington and also share some newsworthy stories.

WELCOME TO THE TEAM

We are thrilled to introduce you to three new hot-shots who have recently joined the Carrington team.

Earlier this year, Alex Rice joined the Client Relationship Team, having graduated from the University of Loughborough with a BSc in Economics. Alex is working with Rachel and Tommy, and you may have already spoken to him if you’ve called in with a query. Not one to let the grass grow under his feet, Alex has already started his journey to becoming Diploma qualified, having passed two of the six exams. He is currently studying for the Personal Taxation exam.

Whilst in the last month or so, we have also welcomed Oly Voice and Georgie Walters. Oly and Georgie joined us having previously worked together, so they have been able to hit the ground running and have slotted right into the team! Georgie and Oly make up our paraplanning team, working alongside the advisers in finding planning solutions for clients and crafting the technical reports you receive. Their arrival brings a wealth of planning knowledge and experience to the team.

HITTING THE BOOKS

It seems like the entire office has decided this summer is going to be best spent with their noses in the study books! Cecily and Ali are both in the process of completing their AF8, a coursework-based exam that forms part of their study pathway to becoming Chartered Financial Advisers. Tommy, who has recently passed his Investment Management Certificate (well done Tommy!!!), is already swatting for his Chartered Financial Analyst exam. Mo in the meanwhile is sitting a Certificated ESG exam in July, whilst Rachel is preparing to take a Pensions and Retirement Planning exam at the end of the summer. On the other side of the office, Marissa is completing her Office Management Certificate, and Nicola is halfway through a Kingston University Business Management Course. Good luck to each of the team with their respective endeavours.

CHARITY OF THE YEAR

We are delighted to announce that this year we have selected Young Roots as our charity of the year.

Charity of the YearTheir mission is to help young refugees and asylum seekers (aged 11-25) realise their rights, fulfil their potential, and support them in improving their well-being and life chances in the UK. With a number of London-based hubs, Young Roots aims to support 800 young people annually through intensive one-to-one casework, youth and sporting activities, English language mentoring, youth leadership, and providing access to specialist therapeutic and legal advice. Partnering with Young Roots allows us to make a meaningful difference, especially during these challenging times. Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on fundraising initiatives over the next 12 months!

OUR PLEDGE TO THE PLANET

EcologiOur carbon footprint this year was offset by protecting the Mataren forest in eastern Colombia and contributing to a Solar PV generating project in Indonesia. The Carrington Forest has also grown, with 500 trees planted across Ethiopia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Kenya and Uganda.

Partnering with Ecologi enables us to support global sustainability projects around the world.

Whilst we recognise that effectively reducing carbon emissions is a massive challenge, we hope that our efforts so far this year reflect the knowledge we have acquired since taking on the pledge to becoming a more sustainable business and that we have taken even bigger steps in the right direction.

IN THE NEWS AND IN DEMAND

Both Cecily and Mo have been in hot demand recently. Cecily was profiled in Citywire, where she shared her journey toward becoming a financial adviser at 25 and her view on gender diversity in the profession. She offers some great insights, so it is well worth a read! You can read the full article here. Cecily was also featured in February’s edition of Trustnet Magazine and was quoted in The Times ISA Guide!

Mo, on the other hand, was invited to judge the Investment Week Fund Manager of the Year Awards  for the 5th year running. This year saw an increase in Mo’s workload as he was asked to judge the UK All Companies, UK Equity Income, UK Smaller Companies, Global Income, and Global Equity Income categories! The investment team, looking very dapper we must say, were representing Carrington at the awards ceremony last week.
