We Did It!
After all the build-up and training, the day of our charity event finally arrived. We know you have been waiting to hear how we got on this weekend, so without further ado…
On Saturday morning, 11 bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Carrington Coasters met in a field in Polegate, East Sussex. Wearing our distinctive Magic Breakfast t-shirts, we were hard to miss, which proved useful on the route when the team split up into different speed groups. Jenna from the Magic Breakfast charity gave us a last-minute pep talk, snapped the all-important ‘before’ shots, and waved us off through the start at 09h30.
I think if you asked us individually, we would all have a very different version of the day, but I think the general consensus was that it was much harder than any of us had anticipated, and the majority vote was that it would never be repeated! Why didn’t anyone mention that the Seven Sisters were a series of near vertical, thigh-trembling descents followed by corresponding ascents into a headwind?!
On a positive note, it was a perfect day – the weather was for the most part lovely, and the scenery on the route, breathtaking. The event was exceptionally well organised, we didn’t lose anyone (as in no one got lost and everyone finished the full walk) and as well as smashing our fundraising target, we raised awareness of the charity. We were all asked by other challengers and the volunteers along the route who Magic Breakfast was and what they did and pledged to make donations on our behalf. The spirit along the route and at the rest stations was uplifting and kept everyone going even when our feet and knees began to ache!
The challenge finished in Alfriston, and after some much needed refuelling, we reconvened at a local in Eastbourne to share stories and recount our day over a few cold drinks.
This challenge marks our final fundraising event for Magic Breakfast. It has been an absolute pleasure working with the charity but none of this would have been possible without you. We cannot thank you enough for your continued support of our annual charity challenges. It means so much to us as a team to be able to support and give back to such worthy causes.
Our fundraising page will remain open until the end of the year, so if you would like to still make a donation, you can do so HERE.
