Our Funds in the Limelight
We came across an interesting article earlier this week on Financial Express (FE Trustnet, one of the leading industry sources for data, news and research) – The 0.1%: The only six funds holding FE fundsinfo’s strongest ratings (you can read the full article here).
In summary, it discusses and reviews the actively managed funds which have won the FE’s top ratings. To make the cut the funds must make the shortlist, be awarded the FE’s coveted five crowns and have achieved Alpha Manager status (a manager that has delivered consistent out performance over a long time period).
There are only six funds that tick all three of these criteria and we currently own three of them! The funds are:
- Fidelity European
- Guinness Global Income (currently own)
- Liontrust UK Micro (previously owned)
- Fidelity Asia Pacific Opps (currently own)
- Royal London Sustainable Leaders (currently own)
- Baillie Gifford China
We have held the Liontrust UK Micro fund for a number of years and it has been a very strong performer for us, up until we sold it at the end of last year. We sold it because we believed that with the current UK economic outlook, it was not the right environment to be investing in companies that don’t historically perform well in times of economic volatility, and where market liquidity can be an issue. Below is the performance chart of the Liontrust UK Micro fund from the point at which we sold it, compared to what we replaced it with, the Liontrust Special Situations fund.
In other news, the 2023 Fund Manager of the Year Awards shortlist has been released. We are very pleased to say that we own shortlisted funds, within our active portfolios, in the following categories:
Global Equity Category – 2 shortlisted funds in the top 10 (out of 540 funds)
Global Income Category – 2 shortlisted funds in the top 10 (out of 55 funds)
Asia – all 3 of our Asia funds were shortlisted in the top 8 (out of 123 funds)
Strategic Bond Category – 1 shortlist in the top 8 (out of 90 funds)
It is good to see this sort of news and award results, which only further validate our ability to seek out the ‘best of breed’ managers and funds in the market.
If you have any questions about what we are currently holding in our portfolios or would like to chat to Mo about markets, please do get in touch.
