Summer Update
Welcome to our 2022 Summer Newsletter. We hope you are enjoying your holidays and making the most of the weather!
We haven’t sent a company newsletter in a while, so we wanted to keep you in the loop with what’s been happening at Carrington and the exciting things we have coming up.
WELL DONE TOMMY!
Firstly, we would love you to join us in congratulating Thomas Fairbank, who is part of our client relationship team and who many of you may recognise as Mo’s co-panelist from our investment webinars, for achieving his Diploma in Financial Planning! However, the hard work doesn’t stop there, as Tommy has already started studying towards his Investment Management Certificate, known as the IMC qualification, with the objective of joining the investment team in a full-time capacity. Congratulations Tommy, keep up the good work and we wish you the best for the next one!
WELCOME TO THE TEAM
Over the summer we have welcomed two brilliant new members to the team, who if you haven’t already spoken to, we’d like to introduce you to.
Stephen Thompson joins us as the Head of the Client Relationship Team. Stephen’s role is pivotal in supporting and mentoring the team, and ensuring workflow between the advisers and the client relationship team is seamless and efficient. He has already set to work evaluating and recommending changes to processes and policies. Stephen brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him (he is a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society) and his love of learning means he has taken every available exam! He is passionate about the planning work we do for clients and ensuring the best possible outcome in all situations is his top priority.
Being a history buff means Stephen is going to be a valuable member of the Carrington pub quiz team…if we ever get one together.
Charles McAree recently joined the Carrington team as a paraplanner. This means that he works closely with all of the members of the team, especially the advisers, as he has been tasked with writing the lion’s share of our suitability letters and the follow-ups that you receive after your meetings – no mean feat. Charles also provides important technical support and is another member of the team supporting you. You will hear more from him directly as time goes on I’m sure. He joined us Diploma qualified and is now working his way to becoming a Chartered Financial Planner. As mentioned, Charles works closely with the advisers, and you may meet him in one of your reviews. These are great learning opportunities for Charles, ensuring he gains practical experience to complement his qualifications. In his spare time, Charles enjoys travelling, the gym and going out for dinner.
CHARITY
As hopefully, you are aware this year we are supporting Magic Breakfast as our charity of the year. We have already held a couple of events to raise money for them and we are getting ever closer to our target. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated, we are very grateful (as is Magic Breakfast) and your generosity means everything to us. It is definitely keeping us motivated and training for our final fundraising event – the 25km South Downs Walking Challenge in September. It’s not too late if you would still like to donate and help support us and this worthy charity!
In addition to our charity events, we also put together a darts team and supported the Fortem Capital Flight Night tournament in support of FoodCycle – a great charity feeding communities around the UK. Unfortunately, our enthusiasm outweighed our skill, and we ended up taking home the wooden spoon!
And then in July, a team of us took part in the annual CityWire Charity fun run (well for some of us it was more of a stroll…) supporting both Cancer Research UK & Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Stephen sprinted an impressive 5km, whilst Ali was the first of the 10km’ers over the finish line. It was a great event raising over £15,000 for the two charities.
RECOGNITION
After a couple of years of virtual events, Mo was thrilled to be out and about again (we all know how much he enjoys a posh lunch or dinner). Having been asked to judge the Investment Week 2022 Fund Manager of the Year Awards for a fourth year running, he donned his penguin suit and hit the town. This year he was on the panel judging the UK Smaller Companies, UK Growth and UK Equity Income categories. By all accounts, it was a very good evening….oh yes, and the best Fund Managers won!
GIVING BACK TO THE PLANET
This year we furthered our journey to becoming a more sustainable business. In January 2022, with the help of myclimate we tracked and calculated our carbon footprint for 2021. As you can imagine this took some time and a lot of number crunching – well done Marissa! From here, we partnered with Ecologi and offset last year’s carbon emissions by investing in sustainable projects around the world. We have also started a Carrington Forest, which will benefit the planet in years to come.
Our carbon offsetting pledge is a small part towards sustainability, and we are aware more needs to be done to effectively reduce carbon emissions, it’s a long road ahead but we hope our efforts can make a difference! Please keep your eyes peeled as we hope to make more of a positive impact on the environment through sustainability projects that we undertake in the future.
