Following a rather calm Summer in the office (possibly because most of the staff were off on one adventure or another), October has brought about a flurry of activity and excitement which we wanted to share with you.
Firstly, we are pleased to announce that Mohsin has accepted a promotion as our new Head of Investment Research. As of the beginning of this month Mo took up his place as Eric’s right-hand man! Mo will be splitting his time between meeting our fund managers, researching new funds and assisting with portfolio construction, all while studying for his Technical Analyst Diploma.
During September we said goodbye to Matthew, who had been an integral part of our team for the last two years. Matt, having valued his time at Carrington, decided to change career path and take a position with KMPG in their Corporate Advisory graduate programme. We wish him the best of luck for the future.
Although sad to have lost Matt, we are thrilled to welcome into the fold and introduce you to two new members of staff.
Alexander Moorhouse and Cecily Chapman have both joined Carrington straight out of University and bring with them a new energy and fresh perspective, which can only be positive for the business. Ali graduated with a First from Glasgow Caledonian University with a BA (Hons) in Personal Finance, Investment and Risk and from the sounds of things will be eager to join Al on his crazy cycle rides! Cecily, also with a First, graduated from Newcastle University with a BA (Hons) in Business Management. Both Ali and Cecily will be working very closely with the team, offering support, contributing to our ongoing development and growth, whilst working towards completing their Diploma in Financial Planning.
In other news, we previously mentioned a charity cycle ride that Alistair was involved in. A couple of weeks ago, Alistair and his wife Holly, along with about 45 other cyclists completed Emperors’ London to Amsterdam cycle for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Carrington were proud to be able to contribute towards the ride and assist Emperor in smashing their target, by raising over £100,000 for Cancer research and treatment.
On the finish line in Amsterdam!
And lastly, we hold a quarterly Investment Committee meeting and I thought you might be interested to see a picture of the most recent one, just to prove they do happen! This was held at the Churchill Hotel Portman Square this Wednesday.
As Asia has been in the news so much recently, we invited the fund Managers from Liontrust Asian Income (Carolyn Chan and Mark Williams) and Blackrock Asia Special Situations (Jean-Marc Routier), both of which we hold in portfolios, to come and give us their views of the Asia market and what the short term prospects are for this region.
We are lucky to be able to get in front of the managers of the funds that we hold, when we want. As you know as part of our active management we do a lot of direct meetings over the course of the year.
Keep an eye out for our next investment commentary and market update, which should be out shortly, following our Investment Committee meeting this week.
