Summer News

Carrington Team

Welcome to our summer newsletter!

As we embrace the hopefully warmer and more vibrant months ahead, we wanted to share some news and changes that have occurred at Carrington over the last couple of months.

This summer promises to be especially thrilling, following the nail-biting Euros—how close did we come! With the Olympics underway and the upcoming Paralympics in Paris, the excitement is palpable. If you have tickets, we’re a little envious and would love to know which events you’re planning to attend. Amidst all this excitement, we hope you also find time to relax and enjoy your summer holidays.

If you’re heading abroad for some much-needed Vitamin D, be sure to check that your passport is valid (and meets the required number of remaining months), and that you don’t get caught out by the “10 year rule”. For more information click here.

THE TEAM

Firstly, we are pleased to announce the promotions of two of our team members.

Alex, who joined us last year and is part of the Client Relationship Team working with Stephen and Rachel, has been promoted to Junior Paraplanner.

In his new position, he will put into practice his technical skills to support the advisers in finding solutions and creating financial plans for you.

Meanwhile, Oly, who has been part of the paraplanning team for the past year, is advancing to the role of Financial Adviser. He brings with him a raft of expertise and experience, as well as an infectious enthusiasm for helping people.

Both Alex and Oly are further continuing their development towards becoming Chartered. This entails completing several very tough exams and written papers to obtain their advanced diplomas and is a mark of excellence within our industry.

Our other exciting news is that we have two new faces in the office. Joining us over the last month or so, please help us extend a WARM WELCOME to Charlie di Lorenzo and Lucas Fildes.

Charlie & Lucas

From left to right: Charlie di Lorenzo, Lucas Fildes

We were first introduced to Lucas when he joined us for work experience in 2023. Since then, he has completed his degree, obtaining a First Class BSc in Economics and Finance at the University of Leeds, gained analyst experience in the City and has now joined Mo as part of the investment team.

Charlie completed a BA in Business at Coventry University before joining an FX firm as a Sales Associate. Having been introduced to the planning work we do and the advisory process, Charlie has decided to retrain with the ultimate goal of becoming a financial adviser. Charlie joins our client relationship team where he will learn the ropes and start his training.

We welcome them both and wish them the best of luck as they embark on their Carrington journey!

GOALS & BUCKET LIST EXPERIENCES

Group Shot

A big part of financial life planning is spending time thinking about your goals and bucket list, as it aligns the financial strategies we create with you, to your personal aspirations and objectives. This reflective process ensures that your decisions are not solely driven by monetary values but are connected to what is important to you and what you want to achieve.

Alistair recently embarked on one such bucket list adventure, although survival could also have been the goal! We wanted to share with you his recent trip across the Alps on two wheels as it might inspire you to think about your list! CHARITY

We have officially wrapped up our fundraising for Young Roots, our Charity of the Year, however, we continue to be involved in helping other charities. This year two teams took part in the Fortem Capital darts competition raising money for FoodCycle, a wonderful charity supporting communities through nutritious food and human connection. In previous years we’ve had mixed results, with last year taking home both the winner’s trophy and the wooden spoon! This year we were disappointed to find ourselves plumb in the middle. It was a great evening though and all for a very good cause.

At the end of this month a team of Carrington’s fittest and fastest, or at least they like to think so, (Ali, Oly, Alex and Lucas) will be taking part in the CityWire run in support of the Help Film and Rainbow Trust charities. There has been lots of talk about how this is going to be a ‘fun run’ but secretly we all know that they have been stalking each other’s Strava training runs, and the “I have an Achilles niggle” has already started. It will be a full-on competition on the day!

HITTING THE BOOKS

Having recently completed her Investment Planning exam, Georgie is lining up her next challenge, the Discretionary Investment Management exam, followed by the Financial Planning Process exam which she’ll sit in September. Alex is targeting Securities and Advice Dealing as his first Advanced Diploma exam, whilst Oly is booking in the Retirement Income Planning exam. Mo is starting the grueling Chartered Financial Analyst pathway and is looking to sit level 1 later this year. Not to rest on their laurels, both Lucas and Charlie have enrolled in the financial planning diploma course. Lucas is looking to sit the Investment Principles and Risk exam in the coming weeks.

Well done and good luck to everyone who is spending the summer with their noses in the books!

DONT FORGET…

We were in touch recently about the annual tax vouchers. If applicable, these are available online through your platform, however, if you would like us to send them to you, or directly to your accountant, please let us know.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

If you missed our last investment webinar, Market Insights, with special guest Nitesh Shah, Head of Commodities & Macroeconomic Research, Europe at WisdomTree, please click here for a recording. It was an excellent session with Mo, Nitesh and Lucas discussing the anticipated interest rate cuts, the outlook for commodities and the current macroeconomic landscape.

If you’re looking to catch up on any of the planning emails that we send throughout the year, you can find them on our blog.

And finally…
AUGUST OFFICE HOURS

You may or may not be aware, but as a thank you to the team, we close the office a little earlier in August. Our August office hours are:

Monday – Thursday:       09h00 – 16h30
Friday:                               09h00 – 16h00

As always, you are our first priority and your needs take precedence, so you should not be affected by our shortened hours.

If you have any questions, please shout. Otherwise, we wish you safe travels across these summer months and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
